The death toll of people who died due to Zaria Central Mosque collapse in Kaduna State has risen to 10, while over 30 people are currently in hospitals across the city.
It would be recalled that four people were confirmed dead, while seven have sustained serious injuries.
However, a source at the palace, in an interview after the deceased’s funeral, confirmed that 10 people were confirmed dead, while 30 other worshippers have been taken to some hospitals in Zaria.
The palace source, Malam Abubakar Bamalli, had said the funeral for the deceased was conducted after the Isha prayers.
Among those in attendance were the Emir of Zazzau, Alhaji Ahmad Nuhu Bamalli, senior councillors and hundreds of residents.
Earlier, a survivor, Malam Shehu Nagari, said the incident occurred when they were in the second sujud during the Asr please prayer.
“We just heard a heavy sound and saw a portion of the Mosque collapsing on some worshippers.
“The entire surrounding was covered by dust,” he said.
