Zamfara launches third COVID-19 mass vaccination

Over 1 million of the 2.3 million targeted for COVID-19 vaccination did not receive the jab in Zamfara, according to the State Primary Health-care Development Agency.


The executive secretary of the Agency, Dr Tukur Ismail gave the figures during the launch of Scale Three COVID-19 Mass Vaccination Exercise at government house, Gusau.

Dr Ismail said that the number of those not vaccinated “constitute a great threat to those that have received the first and second doses” of COVID-19 vaccines.

There is the need for a “great inter-sectoral collaboration with ministries of education, humanitarian affairs and disaster management, women and children affairs, as well as traditional rulers” for effective coverage of the target population he added,

In his address, Zamfara state governor, Bello Muhammad Matawalle said the state government has been taking proactive measures since the outbreak of the pandemic.

He promised that the best three performing local governments in the Scale Three COVID-19 Vaccination Exercise will be given special awards, while the least performing local governments will be queried.

During the exercise, the state governor, some of the State Executive Council members, and traditional rulers were vaccinated at government house, Gusau.
