Review allocation formula to enhance fairness, unity – Masari

Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission has warned Northern States on over dependence of revenue from Federation Account
The situation is a dangerous to the region in view of emerging consequences on its economic and position in the country.

The Federal Commissioner of the Commission in charge of Katsina State, Kabir Mohammed Mashi revealed this while leading the officials of the agency to Katsina State.

Kabir lamented that the overdependence of states of the North on Federation Account has bring setback for the provision of amenities to the people.

He insisted that states in the region must rise and source for enough revenue to take care of their needs.

“We can’t continue to rely on federation account, the situation is dangerous, we must rise to the challenges of sourcing money from internally generated revenue”

Kabir who visited Katsina Government House, saw the commission is working to come up with acceptable revenue sharing formula.

“Over the year, there have been crying needs and stifled agitations by many Nigerian for the review of the subsisting Revenue sharing formula.

“It is therefore worthy to note that the imperatives of the review cannot be over-emphasised in order to fulfill the collective aspirations of Nigerians for a sustainable development,” he noted.

Kabir said the commission has commenced nationwide sensitization to enlist the interest of stakeholders through interactions at various level for fair, just and equitable new revenue sharing formula.

Responding, Governor Aminu Bello Masari described current revenue sharing formula as unjust and unfair to states and local governments.

Masari said the current formula provide large share of revenue to Federal Government despite challenges of financial burden on states and Local Government

He called for review of revenue sharing formula for fairness and unity of the country
