Katsina State Governor, Alhaji Aminu Bello Masari has said only a fool will enter into peace deal with bandits.
Masari who spoke at interactive session with United Nation (UN) team, said he will never trust a bandit, emphasizing that his administration will no longer go for any peace deal with them.
He recalled that his administration entered a peace deal with bandits, but they betrayed government after its fulfilled all the conditions they laid down.
“ I will never trust bandits, they are criminals and thieves with no ideology, killing innocent peoples under the guise of religion, Masari said, adding “that those with intention to enter into peace with bandits, they are free to do but they will fail, because you cannot trust them.”
The Governor traced the history of the security challenges in Nigeria as far back as 1903, and called on United Nation to use its connections to break the chain flow of arms and ammunition into Nigeria.
He also stressed the need for supporting the North with modern technology that will assist government track the movements of criminals in the forest.
Earlier the Head of UN team who is UNDPs representative in Nigeria Muhammed Yahaya said the visit was a follow up mission to three states of Katsina, Sokoto, and Zamfara facing security challenges in the Northern Nigerians.
He said the visit will provide opportunity for an engagement with government, Security chiefs as well as critical stakeholders to have firsthand information about security challenges and identify areas of assistance form international communities.
