NUC approves Medicine, Surgery, PG programmes for IBBUL

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has granted approval for the commencement of academic programmes in Medicine and Surgery (M.B.B.S) and other Postgraduate programmes at Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University Lapai (IBBUL) by 2020/2021 academic session.

The letter by NUC that transmitted the approval to the Office of the Vice-Chancellor and made available to The Triumph indicated other programmes to include: Accounting (M.Sc and Ph.D), Business Administration (M.Sc and Ph.D), Environmental Chemistry (M.Sc and Ph.D), Organic Chemistry (M.Sc and Ph.D) and Analytical Chemistry (M.Sc and Ph.D).

Others are: Economics (M.Sc and Ph.D), Geology and Mining (M.Sc and Ph.D), Mathematics (M.Sc and Ph.D), Computer Science (M.Sc and Ph.D) as well as History and International Relations (M.A).

Undergraduate programmes also approved are: Actuarial Science (B.Sc), Biotechnology (B.Sc) and Islamic Studies (B.A).

Appreciating the approval by NUC, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Abu Kasim Adamu said that he was confident that the outcome of the commission’s assessment would be positive given the quality of human and material resources that were put in place by the institution for commencement of all the programmes.

He assured that conscientious efforts would be made to build on the quality of the existing human capital and infrastructural facilities so as to make all academic programmes of the university globally competitive.

Prof. Adamu expressed satisfaction with the level of support and cooperation being received from the state government and other stakeholders of the institution; stressing the need for more of such support to enable the institution mount programmes like Law, Pharmacy and Engineering in no distant future.

The Director of Academic Planning of the University, Dr. Aliyu Bello Muhammad, while expressing appreciation to all the panels of experts from NUC that carried out the Resource Verification Exercise of all the programmes; also thanked the management of the commission for fair and objective assessment as indicated in the outcome of the exercise.

He disclosed that although results of Postgraduate programmes in Microbiology and Public Administration were erroneously omitted from the letter of approval by NUC, the Commission had been accordingly informed.

Dr. Muhammad assured that the updated approval list would soon be communicated to the university by the commission.
