MATAN boosts capital base from N.5m to N17m

Market Traders Association of Nigera, (MATAN) Kano State Chapter, has announced a high profile upward increase in its capital base from N500,000 to N17,000,000 within a year.

Chairman of MATAN, Alhaji Abba Aminu Imam, dropped the hint while speaking at the Annual General Meeting, (AGM) of the association and Inauguration of Patrons and Market Ambassadors held in Kano, recently.

Alhaji Imam revealed that such landmark feat was recorded through execution of various business initiatives, techniques and strategies during the year under review.
A statement issued by Mustapha Isah Kwaru, the media coordinator of MATAN, quoted the chairman saying, “the primary essence of the AGM is to x-ray and streamline the performances, progress achievements and hitches recorded by our association in the discharge of its operations during the year under review.

“The occasion has equally served as bold platform to critically examine all the development strides and new innovations derived by MATAN activities to enable the association unveil and design more holistic roadmap and strategies to enhance on the already acquired achievements.
“Consequently, I wish to announce to this gathering that the association’s captain base has been drastically increased from the initial take- off grant of N500,000 only to N17,000,000 during just one year of operation”, he added.

According to him, during the period, executives of MATAN have initiated and carried out a series of mechanisms and programmes that transformed the association into a more vibrant, articulated, functional and professional body in the discharge of its activities.

“Some of the achievements and success recorded comprised of enhancement of unity, cooperation and cordial relationship between MATAN and other market stakeholders, building relationships and bridges with FG agencies, establishments, members of the business community, banking sectors and other non governmental organizations to establish a strong and formidable working relationship for the benefit of our market stakeholders and unveiling structures of market coordinators for the three senatorial zones of Kano among others,” the chairman further declared.

As parts of its social responsibility drives in the areas of poverty alleviation and jobs creation, the chairman offered free entrepreneurship training for 125 widows of police personnel of the Kano State Police Command.

“Besides the aforementioned achievements, MATAN is poised and committed to be steadfast by beaming its searchlight towards unmasking more solid techniques and projects that will translate into boosting the general overhaul of its members across the state”, Alhaji Imam added.

While unveiling the developmental road map for this year, the chairman explained that is intended to focus on secure a befitting permanent office, launching of an internet registration and expansion drive of more members across markets, super markets and industries in the 44 local government areas of the state, solar power supply in the markets and launching of telecommunication facilities in markets to curb menace of poor service.

Others, he said were unveiling of mobile clinic and ambulance service in the markets, among others.
