Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto State has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC),to extends the period of voting exercise so as not to disenfranchise some eligible voters .
Tambuwal made the appeal while briefing newsmen shortly after he casted his votes at 0033 polling units in Govt Day Girls”s Secondary School Tambuwal today .
The governor noted that the appeal became necessary in view of the late arrival of the elections materials from INEC and absent of the commission’s in various elections centres .
Tambuwal noted that such issues caused the delayed in the presidential ,Senate and House of Representatives elections across the state.
He maintained that the INEC should consider the extension of the elections period as the exercise did not commence by 8 am as scheduled .
Tambuwal said reports him indicates that the absent of security in some elections centres allow some political thugs to disrupted the elections process in the state and urged security personnel to take all necessary measures to address the problems .
He also believed that proper security measures will be put in place in the forthcoming gubernatorial and state house of assembly elections across the state.
However, the governor was excited with the turned out of the electoral also urge them to conduct themselves in an a peaceful and orderly manner to discharge their civic rights .
