In order to show its commitment on education, Kano State Government, under the able leadership of Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has inaugurated the payment of scholarship allowances to students from Karaye Emirate by doubling the amount to 50 per cent, unlike before.
The inauguration was done at Karaye Local Government Secretariat recently where thousands of students attended and enjoyed the allowances instantly.
During the inauguration, Governor Ganduje assured the students that the allowances were as a result of the inflation all over the world, adding that the state citizens should be considered too.
The governor explained that, for degree and HND students in Science, Engineering, Science Education and Health Science were provided with N22, 500. “For MBBS, that is medicine, level 1, 2 and 3, each student is provided with 22,500; for degree, HND in Arts, Social Science and Education, each student is provided with N18, 000.
“For NCE, Sciences, Technology and Diploma Science, Engineering, Health Science, each student is provided with N14, 500. “For NCE Arts, Social Science, Diploma in Arts, Social Science, NCE with combination in Geography N14, 400.
“For IJMB, N9, 000; Level 500 and 600 BBM, Architecture, N28, 125; for students coming from universities all over the country, coming to Kano to collect their allowances, there is provision of N2,250 for each student,” highlighted the governor.
The total number of students who benefited from the allowances all over the state stood at 40,994 while the total amount is N865, 449, 1050 respectively.
For foreign students, the state government spent N1 billion and also paid N3 billion as arrears for number of unpaid amount that the state government inherited from the previous administration.
Governor Ganduje has, however, stated how his administration worked assiduously for reforming the Almajiri System in the state where they are now receiving both Qur’anic and Western education like anyone in the state.
He lastly urged students to be committed and serious with their studies, informing them that the state government has created enabling environment for them.
