Katsina CSOs warn NCS on innocent killings

Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in Katsina State has warned officers of Nigerian Custom to stop killing innocent people in the state under the guise of trailing smugglers or face the wrath of the public.

“We will teach them (Officers) in language they understand on how to operate in Katsina if they continue killing our people,” they warned.

These are the words of Chairman of CSOs in the state, Comrade Bishir Ruwangodiya while addressing Senior Custom Officers who are in the state for condolence over recent reckless killing of 15 people by custom in Jibia town.

Ruwangodiya said people of the state are tired over the continue killing of innocent citizen by custom officers warning that “enough is enough”

He described the recent killing of 15 people in Jibia by customs as inhuman and unacceptable, insisting that compensation must be paid to the victims of the families.

In his speech, a member of National House of Representative from Jibia-Kaita Federal Constituency, Sada Soli Jibia alleged that over 25 people were killed by custom in constituency within the last three years.

Our correspondent learnt that in an effort to douse tension in the state on the issue, the Nigerian Custom Service has dispatched delegation to condole people and government in the state.

The delegation led by Assistant Controller General, Uba Muhammed visited Governor Aminu Bello Masari and Emir of Katsina, Alhaji Abdulmumini Kabir Usman.

The Delegation also visited victims of the incident currently receiving treatment at a private Hospital in the state.
