The Jigawa State Independent Electoral Commission (JISIEC) has fixed Saturday, June 26 this year as the date to conduct local government council elections in the state, the chairman of the commission, Alhaji Adamu Ibrahim Roni has announced.
He made the announcement during press conference and meeting with all party stakeholders at the commission’s headquarters in Dutse, recently.
He said the commission has concluded all necessary arrangements to conduct the elections in accordance with its mandates under Section 10 (1) and 64 (1) of the JISIEC Laws Cap. J19 Laws of Jigawa State 2012.
Alhaji Roni said: “This commission by its mandate and according to the law has a duty to create a level playing ground for all political parties and candidates that may wish to participate in the forthcoming local government councils’ election.”
He said that based on the commission’s detailed time-table of activities, the sales of nomination forms would commence on May 12 and ends on 26 of the same month this year, while verification of candidates sponsored by political parties to contest elections would be conducted from May13 to 27.
While assuring of their commitment to conduct a free and fair election, Alhaji Roni urged all stakeholders to join hands with the commission in abiding by its rules and regulations.
