FG gives N639m to Katsina contributory health scheme

Federal Government has provided about N639 million to Katsina Contributory Health Insurance Scheme for free treatment of children under five years of age, elders and pregnant women.

The state coordinator of National Health Insurance Scheme, Malam Abdullahi Sani revealed this to newsmen.

Sani explained that the amount would be used for provision of drugs and all other expenses that would take care of the health needs of the beneficiaries.

He said his office would liaise with traditional rulers and other stakeholders to select the beneficiaries, especially those from poverty background. “We have already visited Daura Emirate to liaise with traditional rulers for selection of those to benefit from the assistance. “We also arranged to visit Katsina Emirate to deliver the same message,” Sani said.

He said additional N300 million was provided by the Federal Government to the state Primary Health Development agency to renovate and provide health facilities at Primary Health Centers across the state.

He explained: “The amount provided to State Health Contributory Scheme and State Agency is for implementation of Basic Health Provision Scheme of the Federal Government.” He said the scheme, initiated by President Goodluck Jonathan, was fully implemented by President Muhammadu Buhari administration.
