FG disburses N9.5bn on poverty eradication

The Federal Government has so far disbursed over N9.5 billion to alleviate poverty in Katsina Sate.

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Hajiya Sadiya Umar Faruk revealed this in the state at a flag-off ceremony for disbursement of cash grant to rural women.

The minister said the money was disbursed under Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) programme, adding that about 143,000 families have benefited from the programme.

She explained that the cash grant for rural women was introduced to cushion the effect of COVID-19 pandemic.

Faruk explained that about 6,800 rural women were selected to benefit from the programme across the state.

According to her, each beneficiary will receive N20, 000 with total amount of N3.2 billion to be disbursed in the state.

The minister called on the beneficiaries to make good use of the amount given to them.

Earlier, the state deputy governor, Alhaji Mannir Yakubu had commended the Federal Government for introducing various intervention programmes for poverty alleviation.

In his speech, the Special Adviser on Empowerment and Social Intervention, Alhaji Abdulkadir Mamman Nasir said the disbursement of cash grant to rural women would be carried out in three Senatorial zones. Nasir said people with special disability are among the beneficiaries of the programme.
