Elections: Zamfara police command restricts total movement

The Zamfara State command under the watch of Commissioner of police on election duty, CP Lawal Abubakar has announced the restriction of movement of people on election day from 12 o’clock am to 6 o’clock pm.

This was contained in a statement by the Public relations Officer, SP Mohammed Shehu and made available to news men.

According to the statement, the total restriction of movement of persons and vehicles will commence from 12 am to 6 pm on election day with the exception of essential services such as INEC Officials, Electoral Observers, Ambulances responding to medical emergencies, firefighters, among others.

The statement added that, “CP Lawal has reiterated the commitment and determination of the Police and other Security Agencies to enforce the order of the restriction of movement order of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba on Election day”.

“Security aides and escorts are also barred from accompanying their principals and Politicians to Polling booths and collation centres during the election,as anyone found disobeying this order will be severely sanctioned”.

Also, the ban on the unauthourised use of sirens, revolving lights, covered number plates and tinted glasses is still in force, and violators will be sanctioned appropriately.

In the same vein, the IGP has re-emphased that, all state – established and owned security outfits /organisations, quasi – security units, and privately owned guard and security outfits are also barred from participating in election security management.

The Police and other security personnel will be conducting robust and joint confidence building patrols to ensure compliance with this order as well as to ensure hitch free election exercise.

The Command has also made adequate arrangement to provide security to all INEC facilities and Officials and other vulnerable infrastructures domiciled within the state.

The Command appealed for continuous support and partnership from the general public in order to make the elections peaceful and successful.
