Dantata donates N100m to GGC Dala

…College nets N177m

An elder statesman and a philanthropist, Alhaji Aminu Alhassan Dantata has donated the sum of N100 million to Government Girls College Dala, Kano.

The donation was made during the 60th anniversary of the college held at its auditorium and organised by Dala Old Girls Alumni Association (DOGAA) yesterday in Kano metropolis.

 The renowned business mogul, Alhaji Dantata urged wealthy individuals and the governments at all levels to spend more on education of the children, saying he has no regrets for whatever investment he made in that regards. Alhaji Dantata also emphasised the significance of provision of education, most especially Islamic education to the children as Almighty Allah would query both parents and leaders on how they trained their children on how to worship Him.

He described the day as a happy one to him simply because of the development so far recorded in the college spearheaded by the Dala Old Girls Association, saying that had it been other old boys would follow suit, a number of development would be seen in various schools. He added that last year, similar occasion was held which he described as a pity the level of dilapidation in the school. According to him, discussion was ongoing between himself and the state government on how to provide enough Islamic teachers for both schools in the state.

 Meanwhile, the National President of DOGAA, Hajiya (Hon.) Saudatu Sani said the college is one of the premier girls’ institutions in Northern part of the country, stating that the school was established in 1961 and the first student from Plateau State reported on April 1, 1961.

She noted that the college currently has a population of about 2,500 girls between 13 and 18 years in both junior and senior secondary classes. She added that it has over the years produced prominent girls in various disciplines and many others have held positions both at state and national levels.

The president mentioned that through the support of Alhaji Dantata, they were able to renovate 44 classrooms, 20 new VIP latrines, five solar bore holes, industrial photocopier to support the school management and installed computer data system that captures all students’ records and 200 of three seater metal chairs.

In his remarks, the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero thanked Alhaji Aminu Dantata for his enduring support to education at all levels and the state government for doing all the necessary things in ensuring they provided quality education to the children.

The sum of over N177 million donation was made at the occasion, with N20 million each from Abdussamad Isyaku Rabiu and Alhaji Karami Isyaku Rabiu, while Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero and his counterpart of Rano, Alhaji Muhammadu Kabiru Inuwa donated N2 million each among numerous others who donated at the event.
