…As he kicks off Kano-Katsina Highway project
By Usman Usman Garba
Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano State has described the presence of the Federal Government projects in the state, as a clear case of concern for the development of the state by President Muhammadu Buhari.
The governor asserted that: “President Buhari’s efforts will definitely move us forward for greater development.”
He made the statement during a flag-off of Kano-Gwarzo-Dayi Highway of 83km awarded by the Federal Government which took place at Dansudu town, in Tofa Local Government Area of the state, yesterday.
“This Highway, Rimin Gado-Kabo-Gwarzo-Dayi of Katsina is one of the major roads linking Kano to many parts of the country.
“It links us with Katsina state. And even those coming to the state from Sokoto and Kebbi States use this road. Not only that, even those coming from Niger Republic also use this road,” he said.
He added that, the road would also help in improving the security situation in the state as well as the neighbouring states.
The governor assured that the state government would pay the compensation for those affected by the work, emphasising that: “We will do whatever is possible to help in the good and quick completion of this project. We are hoping that it will be completed within two years as planned.
“Looking at the good presence of the Federal Government projects in Kano tells you how concerned President Muhammadu Buhari is for our great state.
“With these projects, Kano will bounce back and take frontline stage in the scheme of things,” he said.
He added that: “You could recall the mega road coming from Maiduguri to Yobe to Kano. It is abandoned for many years. Now, Mr. President has reinstated, work is going on and that work will be completed within this year, insha Allah.
“We are aware the road before Kano, Kaduna and Abuja. That road is terribly bad and so many potholes and so many areas have broken down, so may lives have been lost along that road and we requested to the total reconstruction of that road, today, work has already started. Work has reached to the advanced stage.”
The governor also hinted out that: “Kano being a commercial nerve centre, President Muhammad Buhari established the rail system of transportation from Lagos to Ibadan, from Ibadan to Kaduna, from Kaduna to Kano, from Kano to Katsina, from Katsina to Jibiya, from Jibiya to Maradi. What else do we need from in Kano?” He rhetorically asked.
H appreciated that: “President Buhari is putting his effort to the renovation of roads linking Kano to other states. This is highly commendable.”
He listed the state-of-the-art renovation and upgrade of the International wing of Malam Aminu Kano International Airport, “…which allows for the coming of some international Airlines to come to operate here.”
“Western Bypass is another federal project. Lagos-Ibadan-Abuja-Abuja-Kano standard gauge rail line, Kano-Dambatta-Kazaure-Daura-Katsina-Jibiya-Maradi standard gauge rail line and extension of Kano-Dutse standard gauge rail line are all Federal Government projects, this shows how committed President Buhari is for our development,” he said.
He listed, among other projects, Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano Gas project, adding that: “With all these projects it is very clear that, Kano is dearly loved by President Buhari.”
