BOA disburses N1bn to 5,000 farmers in Zamfara

The Zamfara State branch of the Bank of Agriculture (BOA) has disbursed over N1billion to 5,000 farmers as loan in Zamfara State between 2017 and 2019.

This was disclosed by the bank manager, Gusau branch, Mr. Julius Idowu Ajala in an interview with The Triumph in his office in Gusau, the state capital.

The manager said the loan was to create an impact that would guarantee food security in the country.

Mr. Ajala stressed that farmers are expected to pay back the loan given to them to enable others to benefit.

He also said only 20 per cent of the beneficiaries has paid back the loan.

“The loan is assistance to the different farmers in Zamfara to help them in carrying out various small scale businesses in their community development, so that they can uplift their standard of living and will help in reducing poverty in the community and the state at large,” he added.

Mr. Ajala said: “measures were put in place through the bank to improve the economic development of the state and Nigeria in general.” He also said over 5,000 farmers from the 14 local government areas of the state benefited for the loan.
