From SuleimanLawal, Lafia
As All Progressives Congress (APC) national chairmanship contest continues to blow the wind, thousands of party supporters stormed Lafia, Nasarawa State capital to endorse former governor of the state, Senator Umar Tanko Al-makura in his ambition to clinch the seat in the forthcoming national congress of the party.
This was coming to the fore at a press conference organised by progressives for Umar Tanko Al-makura held in Lafia, recently.
Addressing the press conference, its convener, Hon. Makpa Malla said the purpose of the gathering was to openly endorse the candidature of Senator Al-makura for the position of the national chairman of the ruling party in the country.
“This step we are taking today is aimed at leaving no one in doubt across the country that Nasarawa State is rock-solid and adamantly poised at standing by her very worthy son in the journey.
“If Senator Umar Tanko Al-makura is elected national chairman at the party national convention we have no cause to regret because our product is sellable,” he added.
The convener, who was a lawmaker at the state House of Assembly, was of the belief that the endorsement of Senator Al-makura would pave way for his emergence as the national chairman of the party without difficulties.
He also quoted Governor Abdullahi Sule, who is the party leader in the state as saying that: “APC should be fair to the CPC and zone its national championship position to Nasarawa State.
“I’m not just appealing that the APC national championship seat to North Central but, it should be given to Nasarawa State.”
In his contribution at the conference, Hon. Rayyanu Iliyasu, former chairman of Lafia Local Government Area and political associate of the Senator, described the endorsement as timely.
According to him, Senator Al-makura deserved to be national chairman of the party, considering his numerous contributions in building it as one man standing during merger of political parties, which later transformed into APC.
Also the state Vice Chairman of APC, Southern Senatorial Zone, Hon. Muhammad Ayitogo explained that there is no better person to chair the party other than Senator Al-makura as a man with capacity to lead.
He added that when Al-makura became national chairman of the party, there would be no doubt that he would use his political mathematics to woo other political parties into APC, as a political gladiator.
Hon. Ayitogo appealed to all stakeholders to support Al-makura’s ambition to foster unity among the party loyalists.
