Sokoto State governorship aspirant on the platform of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) come 2023 elections, Alhaji Sagir Attahiru Bafarawa was attacked at his residence in Sokoto on Tuesday night.
Alhaji Bafarawa, who was the former Commissioner of Environment in the Governor Aminu Waziri-led administration, recently resigned and declared his intention to contest the position of the state governor come 2023.
A reliable source close to the former commissioner said political thugs, popularly known as area boys, carrying dangerous weapons invaded the residence of the governorship aspirant along Maiduguri Road, Sokoto and attacked him.
The source further said a notorious area boy leader led other members to attack the former state commissioner.
However, the source stated that the group of thugs were dispersed with the help of good Samaritans and a team of security personnel working at the residence of the father of the aspirant, the former governor of the state, Alhaji Attahiru Bafarawa.
