The Sokoto State Fire Service Department has said that no fewer than six persons died in 465 fire outbreak cases from January 2020 to date in the state.
While valuable property worth over N1.1 billion got lost.
The director of the department, Alhaji Sani Muhammad Budah, stated this in a chat with The Triumph while reviewing their activities.
Budah explained that the department also successful saved no fewer than 261 lives who involved in various fire accidents within the year under review.
He said the state recorded over 519 fire outbreaks in 2019, describing the figure of this year’s accident as a minimal if compared with that of accident recorded last year as it witnessed reduced drastically.
The director also attributed the causes of fire outbreaks to the negligence and carelessness on the part of the people of the state.
He commended the state governor, Alhaji Aminu Waziri Tambuwal for providing 10 fire fighting vehicles to the department.
He maintained that presently the department has 17 functional fire fighting vehicles, adding that they are stationed at various fire offices.
