The Managing Director, Kano Road and Traffic Agency and Chairman of the Committee of Removal of Illegal Structures, Hon. Baffa Babba Dan Agundi has stated that removal of Illegal structures at Kantin Ƙwari Market has started in ernest.
This information was in accordance with a statement from Malam Nabilusi Abubakar Kofar Na’isa, the Public Relations Officer of KAROTA, a copy of which he made available to The Triumph in Kano.
It said this exercise was necessary following the flooding at Kantin Kwari market where properties worth billions of Naira were destroyed.
Hon. Dan Agundi said he was making the remarks in respect of those calling on him that their structures are new, saying as long as any structure is on waterways and drainage, it must be removed without hesitation. He said the work of the committee has a blessing of the state governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
“The removal of Illegal structures exercise is ongoing despite calls by the high flying individuals in the market to allow some to remove theirs themselves,” the statement explained.
It however said: “He agreed to the request that they should do so as soon as possible because they way grader demolishes may cause unwanted damages.”
It said that Dan Agundi vowed that if one found to be doing it himself, the committee has no problem, but the agency could not wait for any excuses. He disclosed that any structure marked by KNUPDA must be removed, be it new or old.
“All marked structures are constructed in contravention of existing laws and are either on drainage, waterways in which a fire servicing and refuse collection vehicles hardly got access to the market to render services,” Dan agundi noted in the statement.
He pledged that drainage construction and evacuation would soon come into effect to avert further occurrence of such wanton flooding.
Ɗan’agundi appealed to the affected persons to know that the decision of the governor to embark on the exercise is for the interest of the state and its trading and economic prosperity.
