Katsina State Government has disbursed N30 million to 600 female students of Isah Kaita College of Education, Dutsinma.
Speaking at the occasion, the Special Adviser on Girl Child Education and Development, Hajiya Amina Lawal Dauda said each of the students is to be given N50, 000.
Mrs. Dauda said the amount, which is a scholarship to the students, would assist them to acquire necessary learning materials to pursue their education.
She recalled that said the scholarship programme for the student was introduced in 2012 by the state government in collaboration with UNICEF.
The Special Adviser said UNICEF withdrew from the programme in 2017, but it was sustained by the state government in view of its importance for the girl child education.
She pledged that government would continue to provide all necessary assistance to female students to encourage them to pursue Western and Islamic education.
Mrs. Dauda called on beneficiaries of the scholarship to be role model and assist the government in fighting street hawking among girls.
Earlier, the Focal Person of the programme, Haruna Maijidda Muhammad commended Governor Masari for sustaining the programme, calling on the students to make good use of the money donated.
