Katsina fire outbreaks: Who’s responsible?

The title or headline of this piece is the question which many people are asking due to series of recent fire outbreaks on some major buildings in Katsina State.

Our correspondent reports that the state, within the last one month, has recorded six fire outbreaks which led to loss of properties and thrown thousands out of businesses.

Among the places gutted by the fire included Katsina Central, Jibia and Funtua Markets, Katsina House of Assembly Chamber, Staff Rooms of Advance Teachers College and some shops around Kwado Quarters.

It was gathered that it was for second time the state witnessed such outbreak of fire. In 2004, similar outbreak touched many boarding schools.

The Triumph gathered that the recent fire outbreaks in Katsina have generated comments from people especially that the incidents are happening during this season.

The fire outbreak, which touched three major markets, including the chamber of Katsina House of Assembly will cost government billions of Naira to settle the traders and reconstruct the chamber.

The Triumph learnt that government spent billions of Naira to reconstruct Katsina House of Assembly Chamber to international standard and provided the chamber with modern facilities.

Meanwhile, the state governor, Alhaji Aminu Bello Masari has paid an inspection visit to the burnt down chamber of the state Assembly to see things for himself.

Masari sympathised with members of the Assembly on the incident and assured them that government would identify remote and immediate cause of the fire accident.
