Gawuna awards inter-school spelling best winners

The Deputy Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, has attended the Inter-school Public Spelling Bee Competitions 2020 organized by Student Education Hub Nigeria held at Murtala Muhammad Library, Kano.

While addressing the event, the deputy governor, who sponsored the event, said it was an effort to support the state policy on Free and Compulsory Education, emphasizing the importance of such competitions to pupils particularly in English Language.

He added that, very soon quizzes, debates and other competitions will be organized to compliment the effort of the State Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje’s efforts.

The deputy governor cautioned that: “Once pupils miss the basic, she/he misses it all. So let’s put hands together to assist the basic education under the policy of Free and Compulsory Education of the State Government.”

At the end of the competition, three schools emerged winners as Hassana Ibrahim from Attarbiyya Community School, Hotoro, came first, winning a trophy and the sum of N 200,000, while the second position goes to Ibrahim Sani from Gawuna Science and Technical Primary School, who got the sum N 100,000 while the third, Yunusa Idris from Gama Tudu Special Primary School, received the sum of N 50,000.

Earlier in his speech, the chairman organising committee, Shamsudden Sani, stated how some local government areas were selected from the three senatorial zones, appreciating the deputy governor for sponsoring the competition.

The occasion was attended by the Chairman, State Universal Basic Education Dr Danlami Hayyo; Provost of College of Arts and Remedial Studies, Kano, Dr Sunusi Yakubu; Commander, Hisba Board, Sheikh Haroun Ibn Sina and other government officials.
