Forum of Heads of Kano Tertiary Institutions has described the new appointment of Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje as Mentoring Scholar and Visiting Full Professor of E-Governance and International Affairs by East Carolina University, United State of America, International Center for Information Technology and Development, (ECU-ICITD), College of Business, as apt and timely.
In a letter signed by the chairman of the forum, Prof. Shehu Alhaji Musa, Vice Chancellor, Kano University of Science and Technology (KUST), Wudil and the Secretary, Prof. Mukhtar Atiku Kurawa, Vice Chancellor, Yusuf Maitama Sule University, Kano (YUMSUK), the forum agreed that, what the US university decided to do in choosing the governor was in line with his landmark achievements in the education sector.
The letter reads: “Our amiable governor’s concern and dedication to education sector with the kind of political leadership he gives is only possible for somebody whose primary concern and thought is education, education and education.”
They appreciated that, the kind of human and infrastructural development Governor Ganduje brings to Kano, from basic to tertiary education, “…is but a pointer to his unflinching support and desire to build the state on solid foundation of development.” The global recognition the governor is getting, according to the congratulatory letter: “Gives clearer understanding of the fact that Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje is a beacon of hope in national development.
“He is a leader who believes in supporting knowledge-based society. “It is true that our governor has been a source of motivation to the Nigerian youths wherever they could be, as rightly observed by this American university.
“His accomplishments as a governor as well as a promoter of sound political leadership, gives true explanation of his investment in Human Capital Development,” the letter added.
They also assured that East Carolina University would see in him a befitting educationist whose appointment as a Senior Mentoring Scholar and Visiting Full Professor of E-Governance and International Affairs would accentuate the depth of intellectual capacity inbuilt in the governor.
For the heads of tertiary institutions in Kano state, Governor Ganduje’s efforts towards the development of education in the state, is exemplary and should be copied by his counterparts in the country.
To them, the University’s Academic Board captures it well when they sent to the governor that: “Looking at your academic, administrative, and overall leadership record in Nigeria and Africa, you fit perfectly in East Carolina University’s goal to remain a leading research and teaching institution in the United States and beyond.
“This is a true representation of our patriotic, committed, focused and allembracing leader, in person of His Excellency the Executive Governor of Kano State, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje,” they concluded.
