Deputy Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Nasiru Yusif Gawuna has disclosed the state government has implored modern techniques of improving Agricultural produce ,with the aim of ensuring food security in the State.
Gawuna made the disclosure during an exclusive interview with Radio Nigeria in the state, recently.
The deputy governor who doubles as the state Commissioner for Agriculture said Ganduje’s administration since inception had embarked on changing the mind set of the farmers so that they would be more committed with the aim of achieving the set objectives.
The deputy governor explained that the state provided enough security strategies which lead to a conducive atmosphere for farming, modern infrastructure for comfortable transportation of farm produce from rural areas to urban centers for marketing.
“We’ve embarked on providing afequate training and technology to farmers ,provision of adequate inputs particularly fertilizer ,as well as providing qualified extension workers that would guide our farmers, over 1,000 Agricultural Extension Workers were employed by Kano State government geared towards sustaining food security.
” Kano state have the largest Irrigation facilities which we are trying to renovate, greater part of it ,for you to sustain the food security and availability, you have to be able to produce at least twice a year and that’s what we are up to,” he stressed.
Alhaji Gawuna maintained that under the Kano Agro Pastoral Development Project 50 percent of the state dams would be dredged and resuscitated which will pave way in creating more production land in the state
