The Potiskum Local Government Area of Yobe State has launched N100 million appeal fund in line with Governor Mai Mala Buni’s directives on post insurgency education recovery efforts.
The ceremony was held at the council Secretariat in Potiskum town and was attended by sons and daughters of the area.
In his welcome address, the Chief host and Chairman of Potiskum Local Government Council, Alhaji Salisu Muktari appreciated the mass turn out of the sons and daughters of Potiskum.
He described the town as the most populous and educationally committed place in the entire state.
He urged the citizens to donate generously for the advancement of the education sector as as participate in monitoring all educational projects in the area to ensure that standard is maintained.
Prof. Muhammad Munkaila, the guest speaker in his presentations duelled on the importance of education to human life and economic growth.
Alhaji Auwal Isa Bello who is the Deputy Speaker Yobe State House of Assembly also spoke on the importance of education.
Donations were received from the Chief launcher, Senator Ibrahim Mohammed Bomai, Special guest of honor, Abubakar D. Aliyu Minister of Power, Fika and Pataskum Emirate Council, Director-General National Orientation Agency, Dr. Garba Abari among others too numerous to mention.
Donations were received from the business community, politicians, youths, religious leaders and other stakeholders.
The total amount realized according to Potiskum Local Government Council Secretary, Idris Bowu was N100,128,000.000 while donations are still being expect from others.
Meanwhile, Minister Of Power Engr. Abubakar D. Aliyu, (Jarman Potiskum) has mobilized financial support worth N40 million from organizations and individuals for Potiskum Local Government Area’s education appeal fund.
The spokesperson of the minister, Isa Sunusi stated this a statement sent to The Triumph correspondent in Damaturu.
The minister lauded the vision of Gov. Mai Mala Buni by setting up the education trust fund and his commitment to putting the state ahead in the area of education.
Engr. Aliyu urged all Nigerians and the world at large to support the effort to revive education in Yobe state, by reaching out to individuals, organizations and other stakeholders both in Nigeria and around the world, as he described education as the responsibility of all.
the minister also donated N3 million on behalf of himself and his family.
