A renowned business mogul based in Kano, Alhaji Umaru Abdulhamid has urged the agrarian people of the nation to wake up and change their orientation in order to collectively save the society and agriculture from collapse.
Alhaji Abdulhamid, who is the chairman of Ahuda Agro Allied and Chemicals Kano Nigeria Limited, noted that the country is blessed with abundant human resources in the academic industry, banking, agriculture and business circles.
He said if their potentials would be harnessed well, it could turn around the fortune of the nation. Alhaji Abdulhamid, who disclosed this to The Triumph in Kano recently, noted further that in this year’s farming demand of fertilizer has reached a peak farms by farmers even though there is scarcity of the commodity.
“The commodity is becoming so scarce as well as its price going so high too,” he noted. He said the closure of the company that normally supplies chemicals to them as they used to produce fertilizer remained the reason for the scarcity of the commodity and hikes in its price.
Alhaji Abdulhamid said despite the above problem, they tried to sell the commodity at the approved government price. He noted that the federal and many state governments in the nation have vowed to provide farmers with subsidized fertilizers.
He said, as a company, they are ready to abide by any policy from the government by complying with any directive from the government in the sales of the commodity.
According to him, due to emergence of Covid-19 pandemic, importation of raw materials for production of the commodity was not possible, saying that Raw Material Research and Development Council, Zaria and other companies that handle production of the fertilizer could not import the materials.
He however commended the efforts of the state governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje for his immense support to agriculture.
