Edo state Governor Godwin Obaseki has said that his state is hosting National Sports Festival to give youth a chance to perform maximally and improve on their talent as par as sports is concern.
The governor said this while receiving the unity torch which signifies the commencement of the biannual event at the Edo State Government House.
He said that “sports bring people from diverse religion, ethnic, regional and social strata together.
“Sporting activities bring unity more than any other thing, so we need it for the general progress and the development of our country.”
Governor Obaseki thanked people of the state for their hospitality to the participating athletes and urged them to continue observing COVID-19 protocols for Nigeria to be free of the virus.
“Despite coronavirus pandemic which lead to several postponement of this event, Edo State is now taking the challenge.
” We want use this hosting right to make a very big statement, that life must continue,” the governor added.
The event which drew its participants from all the states of the federation and Federal Capital Territory (FCT) will be officially declared open tomorrow and closes on April 14.
